My in-laws recently made the transition to living in a retirement community. With that adjustment came a new set of rules, regulations and a change of culture, including what one does with a walking cane when in the dining room. There is a protocol you know. If there are canes lying around, the food service workers are liable to trip over them and cocktails and trays of canapes are likely to fly so it is strongly advised the canes be laid snugly against the wall, but in close proximity to the owner of the cane.

When I asked if a walker might be a better option for them, as it might provide more stability and serve as a flat surface for one’s belongings (perhaps a plate from the buffet), I am met with a distant gaze off in the non-existent horizon and a sudden case of hearing loss. Apparently, a cane is acceptable to the octogenarians but a walker is not. It somehow defines a person as “aged”. It is already a difficult choice one must make when moving to something called a “retirement community”.

Can we battle the inevitable cane or walker in our future? Science says we can. With the revolutionary technology that BTL offers with Emsculpt Neo, clinical studies show we can reverse aging that leads to muscle loss and the inevitable weaking of the abdominal core. The stooping and curvature of the spine, in part, can be blamed on loss of muscle tone and mass in the abdomen, buttocks and flanks leading to back pain. Loss of vascularity and similar muscle mass and tone in the thighs can produce knee and thigh pain. However, this can be reversed without surgery or physical therapy!

Enter Emsculpt Neo. By combining both high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy with radiofrequency heating, patients can comfortably achieve greater muscle mass by 25%, while reducing visceral fat which surrounds body organs and can result in lengthened mortality, especially in patients with a higher risk for diabetes mellitus, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. Approved for 10 body areas, Emsculpt Neo produces an increase in blood flow to the adjacent joints.

In a study sponsored by The National Institutes of Health, Speiser et al revealed the greatest predictor of mobility in the elderly is firstly the ability to stand from a seated position, and secondly, gait speed.

For patients who chose four sessions of Emsculpt Neo, they were able to continue to engage and maintain the core muscles of the abdomen, buttocks and thighs without going to the gym or physical therapy. Plus, patients benefited from: increased strength, endurance, physical performance, improved energy and fitness, and an overall better quality of life. They also reduced the risk of falls and the possibility of injury.

I can’t think of a better way to keep the walker of shame out of my future.
