Relax Crow’s Feet, Neck Bands, and More with a Pioneering Neuromodulator in Dallas and Irving

Beautiful Girl

While there have been many developments in the field of wrinkle-relaxing botulinum toxin type A injections in recent decades, the first treatment of its kind was BOTOX® Cosmetic. Dallas and Irving’s Dr. Ellen Turner, a double board-certified dermatologist always seeking to expand her knowledge and treatment portfolio, has long offered this pioneering neuromodulator, so named because it is derived from a natural nerve blocker. After being synthesized in a safe and highly regulated environment, the purified protein can be injected into specific muscles of facial expression to temporarily inhibit their movement.

Newer neuromodulator options, like Dysport®, are made to offer unique benefits, such as providing results that develop more rapidly and appear more natural. Dr. Turner and her team work tirelessly to connect patients with their ideal treatments, so they will determine the most appropriate muscle-relaxing injectable—or other strategy—based on a personalized and thorough consultation. When injected by a qualified and experienced provider like Dr. Turner, a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment can minimize facial wrinkles and folds that contribute to an aged appearance, while preserving facial expressions and keeping the overall result subtle, striking, and enhancing.

The full name of this cosmetic injectable can appear intimidating: on a botulinum toxin A. The active part of the wrinkle-fighter is a purified form of a toxin made by a type of bacterium known as Clostridium botulinum.

What Sets Dr. Ellen Turner Apart for BOTOX® Injections and More?

Dr. Ellen Turner doesn’t focus on a single treatment like BOTOX®. Instead, she focuses on every single patient who comes to her offices for help. This patient-first approach contributes to successful results built on a solid foundation of trust. When patients connect with their provider, they are more likely to feel confident in their choices, as well as understand what exactly their treatments can and can’t do. Better understanding can lead to improved satisfaction, since patients know what to expect.

Dr. Turner is widely recognized for her skill, knowledge, and talent with BOTOX® and other injectables. As an Allergan Master Injector, she was asked to be one of only three injectors who attended the Allergan AMI Master Class under the renowned Dr. Deborah Sherman in 2021. Dr. Turner takes what she learns from experiences like this and uses them to improve her overall techniques, sharing the insight with her staff and working to provide her patients with care and results that exceed their expectations.

What Causes the Wrinkles that BOTOX® and Other Neuromodulators Can Treat?

A number of factors contribute to the appearance of wrinkles, including age, stress, worry, and various environmental stressors. Unfortunately, most of these factors are beyond the control of the average person.

Another contributing factor is muscle movement. With each contraction involved in making certain facial expressions, facial skin directly attached to the muscles is moved into a specific position. Raising the eyebrows, for example, pulls the forehead skin upward. As this happens every day for years and decades, the bunched-up skin begins to etch furrows into the surface. The same is true of frown lines between the eyebrows and crow’s feet to the sides of the eyes.

Dr. Turner will explain all of this—and more—to those who want to know how their signs of aging develop and what can be done about them. One of her greatest strengths is educating patients about their options, a process that includes teaching patients about how their skin changes with time.

BOTOX® FAQ

Get Answers to Frequently Asked Questions About BOTOX® Cosmetic in the Dallas and Irving Areas

When it comes to BOTOX®, Dallas-area dermatologist Dr. Ellen Turner explains that the cosmetic is popular for its ability to address facial wrinkles—but knows that people still have questions they want answered as they consider the injectable treatment. Read on to get more information about the top cosmetic procedure in the United States. Remember, however, that nothing compares to meeting face-to-face and having your questions answered in real time.

Do Men Utilize BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatments?

The short answer here is yes. Although women have historically received the majority of cosmetic treatments at practices around the country, that trend has begun to shift as men are increasingly becoming aware of the opportunities for self-improvement that aesthetic treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® can offer. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, BOTOX® treatments for men in 2023 rose 5.5 percent over the year before. In fact, men made up 6 percent of the total number of patients choosing cosmetic procedures in the year.

As society grows more image conscious, and people—both women and men—become increasingly educated about the many options available to them, the number of people choosing to do something about skin-related imperfections, including frown lines, continues to increase. BOTOX® injections represent a safe, quick, and convenient method of subtly turning back the clock.

Where Can Patients Find BOTOX® in the Dallas Area?

For the modern patient, BOTOX® is available seemingly just about everywhere. You may see it advertised from everyone even remotely connected to a dermatologist in Dallas, TX, but that doesn’t mean you should head to the nearest provider who comes up after searching “BOTOX® near me” and offer up your forehead for an injection.

Despite the fact that beauty salons and even dentists now offer BOTOX® for their clients, anyone interested in the cosmetic injectable should seek out a medical professional who has training at a minimum—as well as experience specifically in administering BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Are BOTOX® Injections Painful?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into specific, precisely targeted areas with a very small needle, known as a microcannula. Most patients feel minimal discomfort, with many patients describing the sensation as something like a pinch. Redness at the injection site can develop just after the treatment, but should fade within an hour. Bruising is not especially common, but patients who develop injection-related bruises can expect them to last for a few days.

Most patients can return to work right after treatment. If you are concerned about the possibility of pain, share that concern with your doctor, as it is possible to apply a topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort. Patients who are suffering from a skin infection on or near the injection site should notify their medical provider and wait until the infection is healed before receiving a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment in the Dallas area.

It’s worth noting that an injection session itself lasts only about 10 minutes. The exact number and locations of the injections depend on the individual patient and their cosmetic goals.

How Much Does BOTOX®Cost?

The Dermatology Office team offers patients a BOTOX® consultation performed by a medical esthetician trained to evaluate each person’s specific needs and determine the best way to achieve the youthful, rejuvenated look they are seeking. While a budget is key, safety is even more essential, and it’s important to seek out a trained medical professional when the time comes to schedule your BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments. Many businesses offering BOTOX® injections have received only a few days’ training and have no additional medical background. Patients who are interested in multiple treatments have the option of enrolling in Allergan’s Brilliant Distinctions® program, where each BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment earns points which can be redeemed for savings on future treatments. Schedule your consultation online or call (214) 373-7546 today.

What Causes the Wrinkles that BOTOX® and Other Neuromodulators Can Treat?

Botulinum toxin is a purified protein extracted from a substance called Clostridium botulinum, which was discovered by scientists in Belgium in 1895 and immediately identified as a substance with possible therapeutic properties. Scientists have been studying the bacteria ever since. The BOTOX® treatment utilized by doctors in Dallas and beyond is a highly purified botulinum toxin taken from the bacteria.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration initially approved BOTOX® injections as a means of assisting patients who suffered from eye muscle problems in 1989, with continued expansion of the medication’s therapeutic uses until April of 2002, when the injections were approved for cosmetic purposes to diminish moderate to severe glabellar (between the eyebrows) frown lines. As recently as 2010, BOTOX® was approved as a treatment for muscle stiffness in the elbow, wrist, and finger.

Today, BOTOX® is used for more than 21 different medical functions across more than 80 countries and numerous U.S. cities and regions, including the Dallas area, and more than one million patients have chosen it as a means of eliminating unpleasant facial lines.

BOTOX Treatments

BOTOX® gets plenty of attention as a popular and safe injectable cosmetic for smoothing out wrinkles, but it can treat more aesthetic problems on the face than that. Part of the public perception of BOTOX® is likely due to the fact that the FDA approved it for use in addressing forehead lines, frown lines that form between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet that appear next to your eyes. While these are the specific areas researched in dedicated studies and trials, it is also routinely applied to muscles that cause a variety of other cosmetic troubles. Bunny lines that crinkle to either side of the upper nose can be relaxed by BOTOX®, as can lip lines that stretch vertically between the mouth and nose. Beyond wrinkles, the cosmetic can reduce the appearance of chin dimples, as well neck bands below that. It also works to stop the persistent down turning that tugs on the sides of the mouth and eyebrows to create a permanent frown or scowl. Dr. Ellen Turner offers more than just BOTOX® at her Dallas practice; she also maintains a team of trained, experienced, and caring experts who work together to get the most out of their available tools and treatments to the benefit of their patients.

What Makes a Good Candidate for BOTOX®?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved BOTOX® Cosmetic for four different uses: relaxing superficial and deep lines around the eyes (“crow’s feet” and wrinkles in the lower eyelids), between the eyebrows (“frown lines” and “glabellar furrows”), horizontal forehead lines, and platysmal bands (neck folds).

Less commonly treated areas include the lips (for a “flip” that makes the upper lip appear fuller, the lower face (masseter BOTOX®), the chin (to smooth dimpling), and the neck (trapezius BOTOX®).

Any patients who are interested in BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are encouraged to learn as much about the treatment—as well as their intended injector—as possible. Patients with the highest satisfaction levels are usually those with realistic expectations and a healthy psychological outlook, meaning those who want to look and feel better but recognize that BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments are not a cure-all. There are better options, for example, when it comes to treating signs of aging under the eyes.

While BOTOX® Cosmetic has historically been viewed as a treatment for middle-aged patients, younger women and men are increasingly interested in it as a means of minimizing wrinkles before they become a significant nuisance. Because the injections are most effective for dynamic wrinkles—or wrinkles that haven’t been fully etched in, but instead appear most prominently while you’re moving your face—many patients are taking a preventative approach and utilizing the cosmetic.

Candidates for BOTOX® Cosmetic may also be interested in other anti-aging treatments, including dermal fillers or lip fillers such as Voluma®, Juvéderm®, and Restylane®, as well as skin tightening treatments such as Ultherapy®.

Dr. Turner prides herself on outstanding patient care. She is very diligent about choosing appropriate candidates for each procedure, and you can expect your consultation with her to be comfortable, informative, and respectful. She will listen to your concerns and carefully evaluate you for this treatment and/or other appropriate interventions based on your clinical needs and personal preferences.

To ask Dr. Turner if you are a candidate for BOTOX®, you can book an appointment online or call the office to make an appointment at (214) 373-7546. We will also be happy to work with you to discuss options.

When Do BOTOX® Results Develop?

Following your BOTOX® treatment, the results may be seen as soon as two to three days after the injection session. The full effects, however, typically require three to five days to develop.

How Long Do BOTOX® Results Last?

Results from the injections typically last three to six months, depending on the injection sites, the amount of medication injected, and the patient’s unique facial dynamics. BOTOX® tends to last longer in patients who use it consistently, as well as those who take good care of their skin. The duration of results can also be affected by the amount of animation (or movement) and muscular structure in the treatment area. Each patient is different, but those with strong facial musculature and movement will generally see a shorter duration of results.

Is BOTOX® Cosmetic Safe for Dallas patients?

As a cosmetic injectable, BOTOX® has been approved for use in more than 70 countries around the world . Experienced doctors have been administering it for decades, which makes it an established and known quantity in the medical community. In just 15 years, more than 12 million treatments were performed across the United States.

While BOTOX® Cosmetic is a noninvasive, nonsurgical procedure with a long safety profile and minimal risks, it’s vitally important to share key facts about yourself with Dr. Turner and her team before starting any injections. Specifically, the Dermatology Office team will want to know any medications that you’re taking, your previous history with the cosmetic (and whether you’ve suffered an allergic reaction to these or similar injections before), your medical history (including muscle or nerve conditions and whether you’ve suffered any problems swallowing or breathing), any history of facial surgery, and whether you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

Patients taking medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen, which are blood thinners, are more likely to notice a bruise at the injection site following a treatment and are advised to avoid the medication for two weeks leading up to their appointment in order to minimize visible side effects.

Can BOTOX® Do More than Relax Wrinkles?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is frequently used all over the face for aesthetic reasons, but beyond these applications, it has a large range of medical uses. These include temporary relief from hyperhidrosis (more commonly known as excessive underarm sweating), reduction of severe and chronic migraines, relaxation of muscles that spasm uncontrollably, and treatment for an overactive bladder. BOTOX® treatments help decrease spasticity in patients suffering from multiple sclerosis and other neurological issues, reduce pain caused by tennis elbow, help reduce facial drooping in Bell’s palsy patients, and help patients suffering from strabismus, also known as crossed eyes or a squint.

In fact, BOTOX® was initially researched and utilized in the treatment of various medical conditions decades before it was approved for cosmetic purposes. Researchers continue to regularly uncover new beneficial uses for the botulinum toxin.
