Lasers and Lights

Tighten Skin, Correct Discoloration, and More in the Dallas Area

Throughout everyday life, we can expect our skin to take a lot of wear and tear—from intrinsic aging, as well as habits like smoking and alcohol consumption. Long-term sun exposure can also be harsh on the skin, as can pollution and weather extremes. Lasers and lights are a family of options designed to improve the skin and are especially effective for fixing pigment-related issues. When it comes to lasers and lights used in skin resurfacing, Dr. Ellen Turner and her cosmetic dermatology team take a personalized approach, understanding that each patient’s needs are unique. The offices provide a large selection of lasers and lights for Dallas-area patients to address blemishes, clear up acne symptoms, or simply enjoy a more youthful-looking appearance.

Laser Hair Removal

The presence of unwanted or excess body hair can be distressing for many men and women. Luckily, lasers and lights make the process of getting rid of excess hair simple and faster than conventional alternatives. Lasers and lights are not a permanent solution, but just one laser hair removal session can significantly decrease hair growth for longer periods than shaving, waxing, and plucking. The hair that eventually grows back is thinner and finer than before. Lasers and lights target hairs directly at the follicle and root, causing damage that stops hairs from growing back as they did before.

IPL (Photorejuvenation)

Also included in the lasers and lights category is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), a treatment that emits scattered, pulsating wavelengths to treat a wide range of age-related damage, as well as other tone and texture irregularities. The pulses work on broken blood vessels, acne, age spots, redness from rosacea, other discoloration, scars, wrinkles, and more. This treatment works by heating pigment in the treatment site and destroying unwanted blotches of melanin, creating an even complexion.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Breakthrough innovations for lasers and lights allow dermatologists a high level of control. There are two main forms of laser skin resurfacing: ablative and non-ablative. Ablative lasers are the more aggressive version, which vaporize the outer layer of skin with intense energy. Nonablative lasers heat the underlying layers without wounding the surface and stimulate gradual collagen production. The new skin growth is tighter and healthier. This treatment is good for fine lines and wrinkles, scars, sun spots, dull skin, and more.

Laser Vein Treatment

Broken or weakened blood vessels often result in small, web-like veins appearing on the skin’s surface. Known as spider veins, these are usually harmless and pose no health threat, but can be a visual annoyance. Laser vein treatment uses focused energy to collapse the veins so they can be re-absorbed into the body.

Sciton® Halo

Sciton® Halo is a hybrid laser that combines the benefits of ablative and non-ablative treatments for optimized results with a shorter recovery time than is typical for ablative treatments. Treatments are customized depending on the intensity of the patient’s cosmetic goals and desired recovery time.

PICOCARE 450

Lasers and lights are particularly well suited for addressing specific skin irregularities, which is the case with PICOCARE 450. This laser has a much faster pulse rate than most other types. It is also highly adaptable and is equipped for four different wavelengths, making it ideal for addressing many types and colors of hyperpigmentation. It is also great for tattoo removal, in that it typically takes significantly fewer sessions than standard tattoo removal lasers, making it much more affordable—especially for large tattoos.

Other Laser/Light Procedures

In addition to the lasers and light treatments mentioned here, Dr. Turner and her team also offers laser micropeel and Park Cities Peel procedures for patients hoping for more dramatic skin rejuvenation.
